- Hyderabad was not a part of Independent India in 1947. When the whole of India was celebrating independence on 15th August 1947, Hyderabad was still a princely state ruled by the Nizam of Hyderabad. It had its own laws and currency.

- There was a huge rebillion against the local fuedal lords and the Nizam of Hyderabad lead by farmers and peasants in the name of 'Raithanga Sayudha Poratam'. Following this, the Indian union initiated 'Operation Polo', a military action against the Nizam of Hyderabad lead by Sardar Valla bhai Patel on 16th September 1948 as a result of which the Nizam surrendered himself and Hyderabad state was annexed into the Indian Union.
